Did you know that it has been more than three centuries since a human started using technologies as a way to find love? In 1685, the first-ever known personal ads of a man looking for a partner showed up in a British journal. Fast forward to 1959, the first known computer dating service using an IBM 650 to determine the similarities between people started. Since then, the technologies for human to find love has developed into something we know today.
Since its debut in 1994 with the launch of Kiss.com, online dating has become some sort of a prima donna for those looking for the ‘right one’. In fact, a research study conducted in 2019 shows that 30% of Americans have used online dating and out of those, 12% are either in a serious relationship or even have gotten married to someone they met through online dating.
But with great power comes great responsibility…. right? While online dating sites might be a great place to find love it is also a great place for scammers to find a victim. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that people have lost more money on romance scams than on any other type of fraud. In 2020 alone, reported losses to romance scams reached $304 million. The number got a massive spike of 50% from the year before because of the pandemic.
There are many kinds of the danger of online datings such as hacking and stolen identities. Even with the most popular online dating applications or sites out there, these things are still happening.
Now… how do we fix that?
A New Era of Dating

The main problem that online dating is having right now is data and privacy. With websites’ reliance on advertisement as their income, it became ‘normal’ nowadays for websites to sell their users’ data to advertisers to make a profit. Sadly, online dating sites are no exception.
How will SolDate fix this?
To ensure users’ data, SolDate promises to only collect the first name, the profile picture, and the birth date of a user. There will be no need for people to type in their addresses nor phone numbers that are beneficial for stalkers and hackers. Furthermore, the data will also be secured in decentralized storage instead of a centralized one to avoid hacking attacks and misuses.

There will also be no advertisements as SolDate itself is designed to be self-sustainable.
With its AI (Artificial Intelligence) based human verification, SolDate will ensure that there will be no fake profiles on the platform. The AI will also make sure that there will be no multiple accounts with the same face. Furthermore, people can only use a live photo (a photo you take on the spot when you register an account) as a profile picture. This is all so that there will be no catfishers, fake, nor multiple accounts on the platform.

$DATE, the Dating Token
SolDate is working on a blockchain, therefore like a vehicle, there needs to be ‘fuel’ for it to works. In this case, the fuel is their own governance token $DATE. What can you use $DATE for? For starters, $DATE will be needed for you to use the app. You can hold it to swipes or you can burn it to invite people.
Other than that, you can also use the $DATE token to mint, buy, or sell NFTs on SolDate’s in-app NFT marketplace. We still don’t know much about the NFT nor the marketplace but all we know is SolDate will be partnering with All-Art, the leading NFT platform on the Solana blockchain, exciting! Lastly, you can also use it to receive rewards from loyalty programs.
